7 Easy Ways To Turbo-Charge Your Business Cards - New Thinking, More Customers = Higher Profits
by Timothy Wenk
Consider this paradox: Your business cards are supposed to be your
'miniature salespeople,' yet conventional wisdom says your business card
is basically just a way to convey your name, company name, company
logo, and contact info. That's the paradox... NONE of those elements
contain a reason for a potential customer to contact you! Where's the
salesmanship in that?
Making your business card 'abnormal' can make it more effective at
getting you more customers. But you must be brave, and think outside the
box to do it.
Your business card is really the first step of your 'marketing path.'
But before you can elevate your biz card to that level, you must first
HAVE a marketing path. As you read these 'turbo-charging' methods, keep
in mind how they can enhance your marketing path, and get potential
customers to take the next step, not just keep your name and email
address 'on file.' Consider having your card contain these two items: A
'call out' to your intended audience, such as, "For Denver
Homeowners..." A headline - could be a testimonial (in quotes, complete
with full name, etc.) or your USP (unique selling proposition).
1) Make your biz card a coupon, good for a discount or free with purchase offer - complete with a dashed coupon border.
2) Offer something other than what you sell - like a booklet. "Warning:
Don't sign up with a real estate agent until you read my free booklet,
'5 tough questions to ask your real estate agent.' Download it free at
my website."
3) Make your card be a list of important phone numbers. "Ten most
important phone numbers for Colorado Springs residents." - Of course,
yours is one of them!
4) If you deal with calendar dates (Caterer, etc.), put a full-year calendar on your business card like the banks do.
5) Make your card stand out by making it oversized or an odd shape or with rounded corners.
6) Add a trivia question or puzzle (make sure the topic has something to
do with your business) - then mention the answer is on your website.
7) If you want your potential customers to keep your card really handy
for months, and your business is b2c (business to consumer), consider
leaving a space at the top of your card that says, "Place refrigerator
magnet here."
There you have it -- 7 easy ways to turbo-charge your business card.
